Richard Nicoll for his debut SS13 menswear collection shared a sense of easy modern elegance, classic lines with his signature casual sportswear aesthetic and touches of regency decadence. Leather was super supplied in colourful tones including a shirt, shorts and jacket.

Pringle of Scotland, founded in 1815, combined ease and function of modern performance wear with the luxurious detailing of traditional english country pursuits. The iconic argyle sweaters reappeared in urban camouflage jacquard and indigo combinations.

Hardy Amies SS13 was inspired by the legacy of the brand’s innovative founder Sir Hardy and designed for the modern man. Their refined and distinctly British collection celebrated timeless style highlighted by perfectly cut tailoring and easy outerwear.

Richard James presented their ‘Urban Fete’ collection, inspired by a cherished British institution that sees the city come alive with glorious colour and celebration. This was a lifting, celebratory collection that featured bold primary colours and enlightening floral prints.

Christopher Raeburn’s SS13 collection embodied two characteristics his designs have become known for: style and function. Every garment was considered, from the textured feel of a leather toggle to the performance of sustainably sourced fabrics.

MAN sponsored by Topman & FashionEast opened day two’s London Collections at The Old Sorting Offices in Holborn. Celebrating the 15th consecutive season, MAN team invited the trio Astrid Andersen, Agi&Sam and Shaun Samson to show their SS13 collections.

Astrid Andersen presented the concept of a soft gentleman who battled with mind, body and soul to achieve the unachievable. While Agi&Sam splashed with freedom using bold patterns for a masculine, playful and sporty collection. Shaun Samson was inspired by teen angst, and gave reference to different ways guys deal with and release their emotions though their hobbies.

Katie Eary, one of the most promising new menswear labels in London, reflected her obsession with the West Coast of America and California skaters. Silhouettes were XXL with slim, low-cut jeans in orange and aqua blue.

Matthew Miller wrapped day two of the London Collections with ‘Citations’. His collection fabrications were the highlight, encompassing glass and aluminium in a strong, monochrome palette.

It’s day two of London Collections and I am happy to say the shows were absolutely superb!

MAN by Topman & Fashion East presented Astrid Andersen, Agi&Sam and Shaun Samson.

Andersen returned for a second season on the MAN catwalk and once again transformed spirituality and religion into perceived notions of contemporary streetwear.

Agi&Sam’s Spring/Summer 2013 was inspired by the idea about “being on your best behaviour at your Grandparent’s house”. The pair reflected their strong playful and unafraid attitude, however still wearable.

Shaun Samson, born and raised in Southern California, presented an inward exploration of the male self during adolescence for SS13. Samson’s signature needle punch felting was this season used in more conceptual way with printing, and was able to make a garment morph into itself.

Katie Eary was inspired by West Coast of the US this season and took “a lifestyle rather than look at a fantasy land”. XXL orange and purple jeans, silk jersey shirts and studded towel cages were in full swing!

I continue with Fashion East Installations which certainly didn’t disappoint!

The evening ended with Matthew Miller, ’Citations’. Miller, became the leitmotif of his SS13 collection and revealed pre-folded t-shirts with strong performance materials such us functional fire blankets and metallic silver insulation.

The London Collections kicked its brogues off today for what promises to be a vibrant three days of the best British tailoring and dapper styles. From Hackett London and Topman Design, to Lou Dalton and Oliver Spencer, the first day had it all. Highlights from Matthew Zorpas…

The show began at 11am with the 80’s America-inspired Topman Design collection. Conventional tailoring and bold neoprene graphics were in full force and created a young rebellious upbeat collection for SS13.

Xander Zhou presented “Fleurdelism” drawing inspiration form the big outdoors and camping. “London has always sent out a strong, young and experimental vibe and provides a platform for cutting edge designers,” Zhou commented. He played with shape and created the image of young men in slightly oversized garments.

Either inspired by British culture, or born and raised within in, British menswear designers top up every expectation today. Make sure you stay tuned for more coverage of London Collections.

Today is no ordinary day, it’s the launch of the first ever London Menswear Fashion ‘Week’!

I started the day at 11am with Topman Design show, set at super spacious Old Sorting Offices. Topman Design SS13 was inspired by two cultural divides of early 80s America - the tailored aeshetique of the East Coast - and the zowie way-out rawness of the native West Coast skater/surfer. Neoprene appeared underneath shorts as wetsuit shorties and as panelling alongside leather in oversized rucksacks. We loved it!

Xander Zhou was up next at the Hospital Club. Zhou is the first Chinese Menswear Designer to show outside of China. His SS13 explored and played with shape and draw inspiration from ‘Fleur-de-lis’, the emblematic lily from heraldic coats of arms and the Scouts badge.

Last stop was ‘A child of the Jago’, by Simon Armitage and Joseph Corre, who presented the sartorial excesses of the original dandy and the raw unpredictable razor’s edge of Rock & Roll.

We all deserve a break sometimes, somewhere to get away from our hectic lives and slow things down for a few days.

My birthday was a jolly excuse to gather people I care for and also treat myself. We couldn’t have asked for a better stay than the dreamy castle in Redhill!

Thank you all who helped to make yesterday another landmark day for me.

The Cannes Film Festival is in full swing, and that means for red carpets! Unfortunately for me the closest I got to was the V&A Ballgowns: British Glamour Since 1950 exhibition. I couldn’t have asked for more!

Ballgowns have stood apart from fashion, while occasionally reflecting current developments in the fashion world. Yet, the luxurious fabrics used, and the skills of the designers, established them as objects of fascination, conveying splendour and spectacle. The exhibition charts 60 years of stylish evening wear highlighting styles, silhouettes and colours that have been perennial favourites for many years. Including gowns by Gareth Pugh, Vivienne Westwood, Mark Fast, Giles but also by our very own Greek designer Mary Katrantzou (who the V&A thought should transfer to the ‘British’ team) .

Exhibition runs until 6 January 2013.

According to Christian Louboutin, “A shoe has so much more to offer than just to walk.” And indeed, the iconic red-sole shoes of femininity and glamour, illustrated the importance of footwear far beyond expectations in Christian Louboutin’s Exhibition at the Design Museum.

The iconic French shoe designer, who pushed the boundaries of high fashion shoe design, showcased twenty years of designs and inspiration, revealing the artistry and theatricality of his show design.

His magical journey on the red carpet (throughout the exhibition) was forbidding photography. A rule which I find passé. I believe that designs as such, must be shared and set the standards for new young artists. They must be received as achievements and not as copyright threats. Reproduction regulation could applied to corporations that make money out of reproduction. A picture can only promote, inform, and maybe inspire others to achieve something bigger. We admire artists for the boundaries they break, the culture they created. Who are we to add limitations to creative progress?

I just came back from a trip to Tusting leather goods factory in the heart of the English countryside.

Tusting is a fifth generation firm who have been tanning, grading and trading the world’s finest leathers for over 130 years. I had the pleasure today to meet some of their talented team of Craftsmen and go through the whole process of production of their flawless leather goods. It’s a shame that my photo journey can’t be combined with the distinctive leather smell.

Here in London we haven’t seen much sun in a while, but this afternoon a visit to MAWI headquarters was enough to brighten up my day! London based luxury jewellery brand MAWI is known for mixing opposing themes and with over 4,000 designs has become an influential current in the realm of statement accessories. Inspiration is derived from Mawi’s affinity for collecting antique trinkets and baubles, a passion that mingles with a bold forward-thinking vision.

Mawi Keivom, Creative Director, mentioned that she is now working on clutch bags and two partnerships to launch during London Fashion Week in September. She also talked about the partnership with world’s largest teen site for online dress up games Stardoll.com . The platform allows users to create their own ‘MeDoll’ to dress and style from a selection of virtual stores. MAWI virtual boutique is situated within the Starplazza shopping complex and allows users to try on, and buy with the community’s virtual currency. Come on, you should give it a go! It has been a while… blame the workload! But no regrets, no complains. I took two days off last week and joined some friends for a city trip to Antwerp. A city with a rising fashion status, due to the Royal Academy Antwerp one of the most important fashion academies in Europe.

Take a look at the coarse cotton skirts. This is actually the first design that every freshman student has to make at the Royal Academy Antwerp - Fashion Design course.

The design phase takes about 6 weeks and the final piece has to be related to the student’s concept/vision of fashion. Skirt always has to be in relation to the body and movement.

According to RAA a design is good when a student takes these principles into account and knows how to translate them into the design.

I just find it fascinating!
